About the Peterson Family
Jeff and Katie Peterson will tell you that you never know when one simple step could save a life.  Two years ago, their lives changed forever.  The young couple had spent the evening getting the home ready for the holidays, including putting up Christmas lights, and taking pictures of their two-year-old, Logan, in his holiday pajamas.

Jeff noticed a Kidde smoke alarm that he had purchase a few months ago sitting on his desk.  His wife had urged him to buy the alarm for their son’s nursery, which was on the second floor above their bedroom.  He already had the ladder upstairs, which he had used to get out holiday decorations, so he decided to install the alarm that evening.

As Katie gave Logan a bath, Jeff installed the alarm in the nursery.  Hours later, the couple awoke to a shrill sound.  It was the Kidde smoke alarm, and they heard it through the baby monitor next to their bed.  As they went upstairs to investigate, they smelled smoke.  They ran into the nursery, and saw flames coming through the wall separating the room from the attic – just a few feet from their son’s crib.  The two grabbed Logan, ran downstairs and rushed outside.  They sat in their car, and watched their home burn.  They watched the firefighters try and fight the flames, and saw the damage the next day.  Just days before the holidays, their home was gone.  But that holiday they already had the most precious gift – each other and their son, safe from a fire.

A Simple Step Could Save a Life.
Are You Prepared?

Consider these facts from the National Fire Protection Association:

  • A home fire occurs every 80 seconds in America
  • One out of five homes in America have smoke alarms that don’t work,
mainly due to dead or missing batteries
  • A working smoke alarm can cut your chance of dying in a fire in half!
  • Less than 25% of Americans have developed and practiced a home escape plan

Texas Law Requires Homes to Have Smoke Alarms
A new state law requires homes to have working smoke alarms.  Fire experts recommend installing smoke alarms inside each bedroom, outside each sleeping area, and on each floor.  Kidde smoke alarms meet state requirements.  Does your home have enough alarms?
